Children’s Rights  Illustration

This was a project in my “Art for Children” course in college. The assigment was to illustrate one of the rights children have as stated in the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The idea was that this illustration would be among others in a children’s book that would state the child’s rights in a way they will understand.

The right I chose was about having the right to be with a family who may not be your biological one if it is not safe for you to do so.

I wanted to demonstrate a unique family situation visually in a way that is also entertaining for a child. I chose an octopus and mermaid pair to clearly show that they are not biologically related. I also thought an octopus with it’s many arms would be an amazing mother.
